讲座摘要:

Increasing energy demand urge the development of advanced technologies to harvest clean energy, especially solar energy, to sustainably power the society. Thus, the solar energy conversion techniques has progressed rapidly in the past decades, and will still be crucial in changing the current path. In this presentation, I'll discuss two hybrid heterojunction systems for efficient solar energy conversion, including both photocatalysis and photovoltaics, and show how to address the current challenges through molecular bridges. The first section of this presentation will discuss about the fundamental understanding of artificial Z-scheme photosynthetic system. A biomolecular bridge is implemented to the system to achieve self-assembly of well-organized semiconducting nanoparticles, which provides a platform for in-depth understanding of interparticle charge transfer and photocatalytic process. In the second part, I'll introduce the charge transfer process in perovskite thin film photovoltaic devices. One of the major challenges in solid-state perovskite solar cells is the balance between interfacial passivation and charge transfer. I'll discuss the strategy of adopting molecular engineering to achieve these two goals simultaneously. Holistically management of energy and geometry landscapes at interfaces can be achieved via the heterostructures, and perovskite solar cells with high efficiency and stability can be realized. In addition, I'll show vast potential of this strategy and its future opportunities.

主讲人简介:

Ke Ma is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering in Purdue University as a recipient of Lillian Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellowship. Her research interests are centered in designing semiconducting materials and devices for the application in renewable energy. Working within a team led by Prof. Letian Dou, her current research focus is on the design of perovskite heterostructures for efficient and stable solar cells. Ke earned her Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder under advisement of Prof. Jennifer Cha. Her Ph.D. work focused on the design of Z-scheme photocatalytic system with the assistance of DNA nanotechnology, for the application in water splitting and CO2 reduction. Prior to CU Boulder, Ke completed her B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Technology from Zhejiang University in China.
