讲座摘要

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are bringing us a rechargeable word as they are widely applied in portable electronics, electric vehicles and energy storage power plants. Meanwhile, pursuing of higher energy density is essential for the future development of LIBs. However, the higher the energy density is, the higher risk of thermal runaway and cycling decay due to the employment of active materials with higher specific capacity but poorer thermal stability. In addition, thick and highly pressed electrodes are desirable for high-energy LIB but set new challenges for electrolyte filling and electrode wetting. In this presentation, our recent efforts on the thermal runaway and failure mechanisms of high-energy LIBs will be highlighted, which including designing advanced separators for crosstalk mitigation, boosting electrode wetting via electrocapillary, and failure analysis of commercial 65Ah (320 Wh Kg-1) pouch cells.

主讲人简介

Dr. Youzhi Song received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University in 2018. After that he was employed by A123 systems in the R&D department. Currently, he is a postdoctoral in Prof. Xiangming He’s group at Tsinghua University. His research interests are focused on the mechanisms of battery thermal runaway and the design of safe membrane separators. He has co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Energy & Environmental Science, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials and he is leading a project founded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
