讲座摘要

This presentation abstract highlights the importance of mechanical and thermal transport properties of colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) in various applications, such as electronics, optoelectronics, photovoltaics, and thermoelectrics. The speaker proposes a ligand crosslinking method to improve thermal transport and mechanical robustness in NC assemblies. Additionally, the speaker demonstrates that long-range ordered nanocrystal superlattices possess higher mechanical and thermal transport properties than disordered nanocrystal thin films due to stronger ligand-ligand interactions. The speaker also suggests that inorganic ligand functionalization could lead to tremendous mechanical enhancement which was only accompanied by a minor increase in thermal conductivity, and this presents great potential for thermoelectrics. Lastly, the speaker performs the first thermal transport measurements on a two-dimensional NC monolayer, studying the impact of molecular length, rigidity, core, and temperature on thermal transport properties. This research highlights the primary determining factors for thermal transport and mechanical properties in colloidal nanocrystal assemblies and suggests potential improvements for various applications.

主讲人简介

Zhongyong Wang is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Under the mentorship of Prof. Pramod Reddy and Prof. Edgar Meyhofer, he is currently working on exploring the realm of nanoscale thermal conduction and radiation.

Dr. Wang received his PhD in materials science and engineering in 2021 from Arizona State University, where he dedicated his research towards studying thermal transport and mechanics in colloidal nanocrystal assemblies under the guidance of Prof. Robert Wang. Prior to that, he earned his Master's degree in materials science and engineering from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where he researched thermal energy conversion and storage under the guidance of Prof. Tao Deng and Prof. Peng Tao.

His scholarly contributions are noteworthy, having authored and co-authored 15 peer-reviewed papers in renowned journals such as Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie, Nano Letters, Advanced Materials. And he has been honored with the first prizes in national contests on energy-saving and emission reduction in the years 2014 and 2015, respectively.
